St. Bernadette Soubirous nun habit.  St. Bernadette was a Sister of Charity of the Order of the Sisters of Nevers.

She was declared venerable by Pope Pius X.

She was declared "Blessed" on June 2, 1925, by Pope Pius XI.

She was officially canonized a Saint by Pope Pius XI on December 8, 1933

She is one of the Incorruptibles.  The sacred relic can be viewed in the Chapel of Saint Bernadette at the motherhouse in Nevers.

Hello!

I just received your beautifully sewn Habit of St. Bernadette. I must get an 18" doll so I can put it in place! You did a lovely job on her Habit. Just an FYI - her Habit had no scapular or cord. The little piece on front that came over the white from around her neck was actually an apron that came over the breasts and pinned at each side. The lower part of the apron then tied around her waist with a bow in front. Her head was covered with a white, then a black bonnet, then the two pieces which you beautifully did, came under her chin. The veil was of a sheer material that gathered at the back in the middle and was split up the center. I'm sure this is more detail than you wanted or needed to know! However, your end product is lovely. I only know this much about her Habit because I'm a Pilgrim Guide and a Nurse in both Lourdes, France and the Convent @ Nevers. St. Bernadette is one of my greatest devotions.I'll complete my 43rd trip to Lourdes THIS summer!
God Bless your beautiful work!

Hello, and welcome to our blog!  I'm Sarah, sewing is one of my hobbies. My mom and I especially enjoy making doll clothing and run an Etsy shop titled Julie'sThreadedNeedle.  We make many saint and nun outfits as well as historical clothing for 18" dolls.

All saint and nun doll costumes are under copyright by Sarah Marie Willson and Bella's Boutique.
